MINUTES FROM THE FLOOR Proposal: * To modify pavement markings to create a 3 lane facility between Morden Road and Navy * Incorporates one lane per direction, two-way centre turn lane * Bicycle lanes on each side of roadway * Left turn lanes at all intersections * Diagonal hatching within centre left turn lanes along residential area to deter passing Highlighted were benefits for the motorist, the cyclist, the pedestrian, and the general community. The presenters believe that the reduced lanes will curb excessive speeding in the area. While many were in approval of the proposals, others expressed concern about the spill-over of "slower traffic" on Rebecca to even more traffic on Lakeshore Road, and onto several side streets. Still others were worried about Transit buses stopping along Rebecca and the impact on building traffic behind them, and the possibility of impatient drivers. NEXT STEPS - you do have an opportunity to bring your questions or concerns forward to the Town's representatives - by emailing Craig Tonder at ctonder@town.oakville.on.ca you're encouraged to do so as soon as possible as the committee is preparing for a presentation at the Community Services Committee meeting Tuesday October 15th - at 7:30 PM - at the Municipal Hall - you are invited to attend. Final request for approval to go before Council Monday November 4th. |
