Malcolm MacFarlane OYS (905 281-6758) John Macdonald WHRA At The Green Bean - Jan.9, 2006 Generally OYS promotes Oakville Harbour in partnership with Power Squadron at the Boat Show.
Fence. They want to redo the fence as our residents want and so does the Town. In a previous conversation with Chris Marks of Town Planning, when I told him of our desire to redo the fence, path and hill, he said , due to the lease with OYS, it would have to be a joint venture. I told Malcolm that I will call Chris to give him Malcolm as a contact. Other contact is Dave Gray (Commodore) or Flag Officers. I explained that Chris is just waiting for the new Official Plan for our entire area, which will include layouts and landscape plan, to be out in June 2006. Boat Cradles - Rob Mackay is working on making stacked boat cradles look better. Possibly a screen. Parking Lot (reference only what is inside fence, the parking lot north of the fence and launching area is Town) is always sinking due to bog it is built on. (Building is on 40 ft. footings). Therefore it is difficult to pave. Each year, they do put parking stones to keep it organized. Planters go into their mast racks in the summer. Can planters (which can be removed in Winter) go in the parking lots beside Parking stones? Ie both Town and OYS parking lots. Dredging of harbour is planned for 2011 contracted through the Town. OYS is looking at a $300,000 bill for new concrete wall. Lease expires in 2014. Public Access to Water Front OYS issues are: 1) The boats along side path get gravel, debris and dust. 2) How to safely go around crane area 3. 3) One more, but I lost it. Several of our members have said they want access and I mentioned this at our AGM. However, I have some empathy for their security problems and I have a possible solution; A Social membership to OYS is only about $150/yr. Perhaps we could work out a special deal for WHRA members to join and thereby have access. Nevertheless, I still plan to walk the area and see if I can find a solution to the crane issue. Perhaps the security issue could be solved if the path was closed at night. I would imagine this issue, if we can't find a negotiated compromise, would be negotiated through the Town when the lease is ready to expire in 2014. John Macdonald |
