IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - DANIEL'S CORPORATION - PROPOSED REDEVELOPMENT OF THE SHARKEY'S SITE

YOUR ATTENDANCE ON MAY 28TH IS VITAL TO THE FUTURE OF OUR DOWNTOWN

As many of you are aware an information meeting hosted by the Town's Planning Services Department will take place next Wednesday May 28th at 7:00 PM at Town Hall.  This meeting will bring details of the current application: at the Forsythe Elevation - a 14 storey tower, that if approved will be approximately 75% higher than the Granary.  Since the design charette that was held at the Town in March, the Daniels Corporation has reduced the elevation from 15 storeys to 14, but has increased the mass from 196,000 to 199,000 Sq'.

WE HAVE NEVER BEEN OPPOSED TO REDEVELOPMENT, BUT

Your committee and representatives who attended the charette are unanimously opposed to this proposal.  In addition, we have had over 35 responses from our members supporting our position, and four from those in favour of the development.  We join the Lakeside Resident's Association who last night at their AGM (50 members in attendance) unanimously passed a resolution, which states that the development:

A7         Should have a scale, mass and height  that complements the planning vision for the downtown core 96 a vision which has consistently supported low rise development that complies with the C3R zoning that is found all along Lakeshore Road from Allan Street through to Kerr Street;

and that:

A7         Should comply with all Halton Conservation policies including the requirements that all building be outside the established floodplain, that protection measures be taken for the significant trees at the north end of the site and that construction be restricted on #3 Lakeshore Road due to stable top of slope policies.

This view is consistent with the position of a majority of members of the Trafalfar-Chartwell Residents Association and the West River Residents Association.

We look forward to seeing you on Wednesday evening.

ON ANOTHER NOTE:

I would like to express special thanks to Lesley O'Connor (Committee Member) who hosted our first Volunteer Gardens Committee meeting last night.15 enthusiastic resident members attended, as well as Chris Mark, Assistant Director, Parks and Recreation Department of the Town.  The committee along with the support of the Town will begin a program of "sprucing" up our park areas, specifically Tannery Park and the Harbour area, and the small park between Kerr and Wilson.  Their efforts will include weeding, annual and perennial plantings, and the eventual addition of larger trees, and fund-raisers which will be matched by in-kind services from the Town.   Thanks to all who joined in on this venture.  More volunteers are always welcome.  Please contact Lesley at 905-844-0787 if you are interested.
