THE WEST HARBOUR RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION DECEMBER REPORT
Dear Members:
1. As we communicated to you in November, a proposal was
submitted to Tim Horton’s regarding issues of noise, off-site
garbage, and the 24-hour “boom” box – and while we have not received an
official response to our concerns, Tim’s has acknowledged to the Town that they
are taking these matters seriously, and will be in touch over the next few
weeks – we consider this to be positive and will report any progress to you.
2. We understand The Sharkey’s redevelopment proposal
has been submitted to the Town – our committee’s research has concluded that
the plans for this site are not in keeping with the WHRA’s vision, nor do they
meet any of the guidelines of the Town’s Official Plan, Zonng By-laws, and the Halton
Conservation Authority. Our committee
unanimously opposes the project. A
separate report is available on our website www.oakville-whra.com (menu option –
Sharkey’s redevelopment) with more details regarding this
decision. With the proposed plans now
in the hands of the Town, there will be an opportunity for the public to
express their opinion early in the New Year.
We will keep you informed of all meeting dates.
3. The Lakeshore Village Inc. project
(corner Kerr and Lakeshore) has been approved by Council and we have been told
that demand for the ten Lakeshore units exceeds supply. A sales office has been set up directly
across the street – residents are invited to drop in and view the plans.
4. The developers at Kerr and Lakeshore and our committee
will be approaching Brewers Retail with a proposal to “dress up”
the exterior of the building to be more in keeping with the “residential”
setting of the West Harbour – we will report any progress on this initiative in
the next few weeks.
5. The Water Treatment Plant will be witnessing some changes in the New Year – with
the installation of ozonation for improved disinfection and some upgrades to
the plant’s sedimentation process. And
while the Region of Halton has indicated that there will be some changes to the
current footprint – it has indicated that it is their intention to “minimize
any change in the plant footprint and improve the plant’s architecture as
well”. We have a committee member assigned to this project and will be keeping
you up to date on any news from the Region.
6.
We hope you have had a
chance to visit our new website www.oakville-whra.com – with
special thanks to Peter Markiewicz (a resident and member of WHRA) we are now
online and ready to update you on a vast number of topics, from history
to what’s happening!
7. Your Market Value Assessment dated June
2001 has likely arrived and from what we are hearing many residents are
surprised by some of the significant increases from the previous valuations in
June 1999. One of our committee members
is doing some research on this area – we’d like to hear from you on this – so
please respond on our website – Local Concerns on your menu.
Your WHRA Committee.
